LG VX6100 Troubleshooting

Phone is not responding ¶

Your phone's display is frozen and your keys are not responding.

Power cycle your phone ¶

Many cell phone software problems can be fixed by performing a power cycle. Turn the phone off and then back on. If the phone will not turn off, remove and replace the battery, then turn the phone back on.

Stuck in Car Kit Mode ¶

Your phone displays Car Kit Mode and is otherwise unresponsive.

Shorted Connector ¶

This was most likely caused by corrosion due to water damage to the phone. Try cleaning the charge port with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush or similar instrument. Note: You may have to open up the phone to clean the corroded connection.

Phone will not charge ¶

You try to charge your phone, it continues to lose battery life.

Bad cable connection ¶

Check the cable for damage and dirt, especially at the ends. If you were using a car, try using the wall charger, as this will provide greater power input.

Broken charger or cord ¶

Try using different chargers to see if you may have a problem with your charger or cord.

Obstructed/bad charger jack ¶

Check the jack where the charger connects to your phone for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. Clean out the charger jack very carefully by blowing into it or with a tooth pick or soft toothbrush. If the charger jack is broken, you will have to replace it.

Phone will not turn on ¶

You cannot get your phone to turn on.

Drained/dead battery ¶

Plug your phone into your car charger or wall adapter to charge. If it does not charge when connected to either of these, try the options described above. If none of these options work, you probably have a dead battery. The battery will need to be replaced.

Bad display ¶

It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is bad. If the phone sounds like it is working properly but nothing is visible, it is possible the display is bad and must be replaced.

Bad motherboard ¶

If nothing else works, your logic board is probably bad and needs to be replaced.

Hard Reset ¶

Repeated errors that prevent normal operation of the LG VX6100 are often caused by additional software downloaded to the phone. In order to return the LG VX6100 to normal working condition, you need to conduct a hard reset. A hard reset clears all of the data and software stored in the phone's memory and returns the LG VX6100 to the factory settings.

Write down any important data stored in your phone prior to resetting the LG VX6100.

Resetting the phone deletes all of the information in your phone.

To perform a hard reset, perform the following steps:

  1. Press the left soft key under the word "Menu" to open the main menu. The soft keys are the two buttons under the screen with a dash on them.
  2. Push "9" on the phone's keypad for "Settings" and then "4" for "Security." A password prompt will appear on the screen.
  3. Enter the phone's password using the keypad. The default password is the last four digits of your phone number.
  4. Push "6" for "Reset Default" and then press the "OK" button, which is located in the middle of the directional buttons.
  5. Press "1" for "Revert" to reset the settings on your phone. The LG VX6100 will turn off and then turn back on again.

No/bad audio using earpiece ¶

Your phone turns on and appears to work, but when you listen to anything with the earpiece on your phone, the audio doesn't sound correct.

Volume is off ¶

Press the volume key on the top left side of your phone until it is maxed out, and test the earpiece.

Bad earpiece ¶

The most likely cause of audio output problems on your phone is a bad earpiece. You will need to replace it.

No/bad audio while using headset ¶

Your phone turns on and appears to work, but when you plug in a headset, the audio doesn't sound correct.

Bad headset ¶

If you are using a headset, it's worthwhile to eliminate it as the source of your problem at the beginning. Make sure there is a clean connection between the headset jack and the headset connector, and try listening again. If you can, try your phone with another headset just to make sure that the problem is with the phone.

Bad audio jack ¶

The most likely cause of audio output problems on your phone is a bad audio-out jack.

Forgot my lock code ¶

You can't remember your lock screen code.

Power cycle your phone ¶

If you set a lock screen on your phone and did not select the option "On Power Up," then you can gain access to your phone and bypass the lock screen, but this will not reset the lock code.

Reset the lock code to default ¶

On the lock screen, dial *228 option 1. This should reset the lock code to be the last 4 digits of your phone number.

Call customer service ¶

If none of the above options work, contact customer service.
