Causes
If the sensors are affected in any way due to a variety of reasons, it could affect how the buttons react to touch, making them seem unresponsive.
- The touch sensor of the device might not register if you press it right away. It could take a second to react.
- Sweaty hands, high temperatures, or humidity can interfere with the sensor that detects when you're wearing the device, leading to issues with the play/pause function.
- If the ear cups are dirty, then the sensor may not register correctly.
- Wipe off any moisture, cool off the device, and put the device in an area that has low humidity. Try the button after the device isn't being affected by any external factors.
If multiple sources of audio are playing simultaneously, the play/pause button has a harder time differentiating them, causing it to not work properly.
- Ensure multiple audio-playing sources aren't open to avoid confusion in the play/pause button's command reception.
- Clear all audio sources and try the button again.
If the device you're trying to connect to doesn't have the necessary commands, it could stop the play/pause button from working.
- The music player cannot be controlled when a Windows computer is locked. Unlock the screen and try again.
- Some devices do not respond to the device's play/pause command.
- The device can only control audio players. There's a chance that video apps will not respond to the device's play/pause commands.
Sometimes, the problem could be that you are pressing the wrong button. In this case, the play/pause button might still be operable.
- Check the user manual that came with the device to confirm the correct button combination for play/pause.
- Take some time to get familiar with the layout and functionality of your device.
