My Problem

I originally took it to the Apple Store to get the battery replaced for $29. Since the phone had been dropped in water about two years ago, they wouldn't touch it. I wanted to replace the battery, since I only want to charge the phone once per day.

My Fix

I took my time doing the repair, making sure I watched the repair video a few times before starting. Some portions of the repair were intimidating, such as pulling the phone open with a suction cup and then getting the battery out when the adhesive strip broke. I made sure to use the magnetic repair organizer and labeled each part. I even kept track of which hole each screw came from.

My Advice

I made the mistake of using the tweezers to pry the battery loose after the adhesive strip broke. The battery started to smoke for a few seconds, but then it stopped. I switched to an all plastic tool. I should have probably applied heat to the phone to weaken the adhesive, but I was a bit impatient for that.
