My Problem
I made a damaged digitizer worse by checking the connections and fiddling around. Simply replacing the whole screen and digitizer did the trick.
My Fix
Granted, it was not my first work on an iPhone 6. I had replaced a battery on one about a year ago and just replaced antennas on another two weeks ago. For a family of four, all phones are up and running perfectly and none have been replaced for a few years.
My Advice
Keep screws sorted by their tasks in little containers along with any associated part removed. If there are some too close in size to easily tell the difference then save them on tape in the positions they were removed.
