My Problem
Water got spilled on top of the MacBook Air. We cleaned it off right away but apparently 3 Keys did not work. We used it with a usb keyboard and everything else about the computer seemed fine.
We went to Apple store and were quoted around $400 to fix it. They also suggested we use a usb keyboard. That makes a portable laptop not so portable. They did look inside and said they didn’t see any water damage. I felt confident that is was just a keyboard issue but didn’t feel that putting $400 into a $750 laptop was worth it.
We bought a new MacBook Pro for my wife because she used it for work and needed something right away and she needed a beefier machine.
Then I saw that ifixit had a “C” stock upper with keyboard for around $110. I figured fixing the computer was worth that so I ordered it.
My Fix
I took my time, about 4 Hours, and put every screw and part into ziplock bags and marked which step they were for as I went through the 41 steps to take the computer apart. I followed the guide, reversed the steps with the new keyboard, and voila. I have my MacBook Air working again.
My Advice
Take your time and read the tips and tricks people add along the way. I put every piece into a plastic ziplock and marked which step it was for. Read the tool list before starting to make sure you have what you need.
