Saving my friends from things that might explode.

How to replace the battery in your iPhone 5s

Moderate

My Problem

The phone belongs to a friend. The original battery had ballooned, and pushed the screen off of the phone. Light was leaking badly out the sides of the device.

My Fix

The battery removal and install went just as planned. I did accidentally tear one of the adhesive strips on removal, but I used a hair dryer to warm up the phone, and then used a plastic spudger to remove the battery. It came out with not to much effort. The guide was thorough and complete. The photos were clear. As usual.

The phone screen really should be replaced, but he's just trying to make this phone last until his contract is up this fall. So while the screen still doesn't lay totally flat, at least the battery is not in danger of rupturing and exploding. A good improvement.

My Advice

The guide was complete. All the instructions matched well. This was the first time I'd worked on the 5s. I've done the 4, 4s, 5 and 6, among others.
