My Problem
While hiking over rocks near the American River I slipped on some moss and landed against a pointy rock against my right rear pocket of my jeans. I happened to be carrying my iPhone 6 in that pocket. the rock put a dent in the back of my phone and created a purple colored defect on the display. The phone then did not hold a charge very long and shut down spontaneously. The power button did not function as well.
My Fix
Replaced the display, power button cabling, and battery. It helps to wear surgical 2.5 power surgical loupes. The repair went well everything works like a new phone.
My Advice
While hiking, put your phone in your shirt pocket.
