My Problem

MacBook, Startup failure w/question mark on file. After the computer repair shop misdiagnosed the issue and charged $50, I was able to determine the Hard Drive cable needed replacement.

My Fix

The longest part of the process was waiting for the replacement cable to be delivered. After viewing the "how to" guides, the entire repair took 15 minutes, from opening the computer to starting it up with the new cable

My Advice

1. Try to fix it yourself first. The first shop charged $50 to diagnose (the computer was my daughter's at college) and they said there was no readable data and tried to sell me a $300 SSD that I bought for $100. 2. The local repair shop was going to charge me $150 to repair the cable, after I told them what the issue was. 3. Make sure you have the tools ahead of time (i.e. for Mac's) as the smaller drivers #00 & #0 can be a challenge to find sometimes
