How to replace the battery in your iPhone 5s

My Problem

The iPhone 5s battery was gradually losing its normal charge duration. Following a full charge, it would end up at 50% capacity after about 7 hours of little to no use and no apps in background.

My Fix

Overall, the repair we well. Once I removed the Touch ID cable connector bracket the cable popped right out from the connector. I encountered a minor problem while attempting to remove the metal battery connector bracket. While I was able to remove the bottom screw, I stripped the upper screw head and could not remove it. Therefore, I bent the bracket up to allow me to remove the battery connector. Additionally, since I was only removing and replacing the battery I skipped steps 17-23.

My Advice

I found it difficult to impossible to effectively remove the adhesive strips holding the battery in place. I delicately tried to remove the strips but they continued to separate to a point where there was nothing left to grab on to. As I didn't have an iFixit iOpener, I used a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive strips for removal. While using the hair dryer, I slowly pried up on the battery with a stiff metal spatula (below the volume controls) for removal. Once the battery was removed I peeled away the remaining strips. If I had to do this again, I'd just grab the hair dryer as I can't imagine anyone having success at peeling away those strips very easily.
