iPhone 6 Battery Replacement

45 minutes

Moderate

My Problem

This phone was dropped into a pile of leaves by accident. The screen was shattered but worst was the case/screen was being pushed apart and the phone could only hold a charge for 2-3 mins. The battery was seriously damaged in the fall and the owner was lucky it didn't explode or catch fire! You can see from the picture of me holding the batteries together how much larger the original battery had ballooned from it's normal size. The glass panel itself was shattered and also needed replacement, but the battery was the main concern here for safety reasons.

My Fix

Repair went smooth as silk! iFixit provided all the right tools and their step by step guides made it easer to fix than changing the oil on my car! The only down side was since I ordered both the battery and screen, I didn't need two full kits so I ordered the screen with the kit and the battery by itself. Since the screen replacement required the removal of the battery, I figured the screen replacement kit would have all the tools I needed for both jobs. However, the battery ordered by itself DID NOT come with the adhesive strip replacements needed to install the battery. I was a little disheartened to see that and felt it should have been included with the battery regardless because to replace the battery you MUST remove the previous adhesive strips. I made due with some double-sided tape I had in the garage, I just hope it lasts.

My Advice

MAKE SURE you order the battery WITH adhesive strips!!! If you don't, the battery has nothing to hold it in the phone case and could wiggle around if not secured.
