My Problem

Spotty, if any, wireless and GPS effective radius was about a half mile.

My Fix

REpair, using the iFixit writeups went well. The problem occurred in reassembly and the multiple ribbon cables from the front screen/digitizer back to the board. Originally, I got a blank screen with lines. Took the phone apart again and reseated everything to get a proper lock screen....but no touch response. Took the phone apart multiple times after that attempting to reseat the ribbon connectors and get the touch screen to work again. In the end, knowing that I had faulty antennae and now a touch screen that wouldn't work, I exchanged it with apple for a new phone. Nothing against iFixit, I probably damaged a connector on a ribbon cable or board with the multiple attempts and the delicate/sensitive nature of the pieces.

My Advice

Do not force the ribbon cable connections! This is the only thing I can figure that went wrong as it felt like everything seated properly the first time and I had a blank screen. unfortunately, the cable connectors don't provide a confident alignment sense when trying to get everything in and that first cable connector is THE WORST ONE!!
