My Problem

Ordering the complete glass+display+digitizer assembly from ifixit.com was a little expensive, but worth it.

My Fix

I took my time, and everything went smoothly.

My Advice

Ordering the complete glass+display+digitizer assembly from ifixit.com was a little expensive, but worth it.

Don't bother buying all of the suggested parts. You don't need the plastic opening tools, and definitely not the iOpener. The spudger was nice to have, but a hairdryer worked excellent for heating the device. I used a thermometer and brought it up to around 120 - 130 degrees F.

Take your time, and keep applying heat as you go around. The old display will break (more), as it is glued in the center. Just keep heating, and sliding the picks around, and it will come apart. Also, once you get it apart, be sure to clean out the old goop where the new screen will be seated. You want a nice clean surface.

When re-assembling:

1) Connect the display cable only, and power-on the device to test it out. Power it back off and disconnect.

2) Remove the plastic covers from the new assembly:

a) The tape with the red handle holding the display cable

b) The green outer cover over the glue edge

c) The blue cover over the copper foil

3) Connect the display cable, and set the top part of the screen in place.

4) Fish the fingerprint reader cable down through the hole, as you slowly lower the glass in place.

5) Make sure the soft key tabs are in place before you get all the way down

6) Make sure it's lined up before getting all the way down

7) Apply pressure from one corner towards the other corners to seal it down
