My Problem
My four-year-old iPhone 4S again needed a new battery. I had replaced the original about a year and a half ago with a battery I bought on eBay, but that battery now needed replacing.
I tried the eBay route again from a reputable seller, but both batteries were obviously used. The seller did return my money, so the only thing lost was the time I spent replacing batteries.
I decided to go with an online dealer who seems to have a good reputation in tech forums. The first battery had a full cycle count of over 200. I informed the company that the battery was used, and they apologized and sent a replacement. This battery had 145 full cycles already. How can these companies get by selling used batteries?
Finally, I ordered a new battery from iFixit. I should have done that to start with.
My Fix
The repair went well. I've had plenty of practice! I checked the full cycle count and it was 4. I was relieved to see that.
My Advice
If you need a replacement battery for an iPhone, don't waste your time with eBay or any "other world computing" company. Either go to Apple or order from iFixit. Either way, you'll get a quality, good battery, but you'll save a good bit of cash ordering from iFixit. I learned my lesson the hard way.
