My Problem
After having repeated issues saving to my hard disk my computer eventually failed to even boot, leading me to think that I had an issue with the hard drive. After purchasing and installing a new hard drive and experiencing the same issues I did a bit of research and realised that the hard drive cable was the issue.
My Fix
The installation of the new hard drive cable wasn't difficult, however I would recommend buying a cable with the bracket already attached. No issues since installing the new cable!
My Advice
Try and find out as much about the replacement process before purchasing- I didn't realise that installing the cable to the bracket would be as difficult as it was and could have easily avoided this by spending a few extra dollars.
