Successful repair of iPhone 5 dock, home button fix too!
My Problem
Over a period of about one year, it took longer and longer to get the phone to charge. It would always eventually work, but I was fed up and decided to replace the port.
My Fix
The repair was pretty easy. I didn't remove the battery or screen which saved some time. Unfortunately, after I had the thing back together, the home button was not working. As it was pretty late I initially said oh well and just was going to use the AssistiveTouch feature. This lasted all of two days before I decided to fix the home button too. It turns out that the one of the two gold colored connectors (just to the left of the port) got a bit bent during the port replacement and wasn't making contact with the home-button electrode on the screen. I just gently bent the gold looking connector back in place and the home button was working again!
My Advice
Keep an eye on those gold home button connectors, making sure they don't get bent in the process.
