Mid 2012 MacBook Pro SATA Cable Replacement
My Problem
After upgrading to an SSD, the computer would give me a flashing folder icon and refuse to boot. The SSD would boot and run fine when attached via an external SATA to USB cable. The thing that threw me for a loop was the fact that the original hard drive still worked which made me question whether or not it was the cable. I guess the extra demand from the SSD managed to make the cable show failing while the HDD did not.
My Fix
The repair was very easy and straight forward. I didn't have any issues. I just was very careful with the new cable to not bend it or pull on it too hard in any direction.
My Advice
Be very gentle and patient with the new cable. This isn't something you want to break again and apparently they are fragile. For the sticky part of the cable that runs to the status light just be patient to get it stuck down and not have any kinks in the cable.
