My Problem

original battery reached end of lifecycle

My Fix

well! took some time, because of sothering new battery to device. quite tricky but feasible with a nice repair Tutor video on the net.

My Advice

be VERY careful with that sothering of battery, cause extremely close to delicate pieces that wouldn't bear a damage if coming to close with sothering iron

My Problem

iPod would die instantly when disconnected from charger

My Fix

Better than expected, only thing that went wrong was the volume down button doesn't work anymore

My Advice

Just have all tools prepared before attempting the repair and if you have unsteady hands have someone hold the battery over the solder pads while you solder it in place

My Problem

I had to change the the battery of my iPod touch 4G because it was too old and didn't last for long time anymore

My Fix

The repair was really hard. Apart from removing screws and disconnecting some components, I didn't realize that I broke the link to the volume controls, but it had been the only problem until I realized that I had to unsolder the old battery and to solder the new one, and if am really bad at soldering. I don't know what went wrong, but I ended up throwing my iDevice because after one day of work, I still couldn't make it to solder the new battery.

My Advice

MY ADVICE IS TO TRY TO REPLACE THE BATTERY OF THIS IPOD TOUCH MODEL ONLY IF YOU ARE GOOD AT SOLDERING, OR YOU WILL END UP THROWING YOUR DEVICE AWAY.

My Problem

The 1TB hard drive in my 2011 iMac started failing. Luckily I had everything backed up on externals. I was super excited to see that iFixit had a dual hard drive kit, so I ordered that plus a 500GB SSD for my boot drive and a 3TB HDD for bulk storage.

My Fix

The repair went amazingly well. A co-worker helped me with the repair which was VERY important when we were taking the screen off. We took our time and were very gentle with all the connections, so nothing was damaged. It was a great opportunity to clean out all the dust with canned air too.

The instructions were very clear and well defined, with excellent pictures. Using iFixit's Magnetic Project Mat and Pro Tech Toolkit made everything much easier and faster. It took us 3 hours total to tear it apart, install the dual HD kit + the 2 HDs and put it back together. We all held our breath when we plugged the power back into it and pushed the ON button... success! High fives for everyone.

Before we got started I was nervous about repairing my own computer. Now that I (with help) have repaired my own computer I am much more confident that I can repair other devices using the guides on this website.

My Advice

I simply wish I had believed earlier that electronics repair isn't magical or out of reach as long as I have the right tools and an excellent guide to follow. By doing in-house repair we saved a lot of money (was even thinking of just buying a new computer initially), plus my computer is way faster and cooler than it was before.

Advice? JUST DO IT.

My Problem

Very early model ipod4 would not hold a charge anymore. The battery lasted 30 minutes at most.

My Fix

My very early model ipod4 was ALMOST identical to the repair guide but with some extra bits. Mainly some of the parts were held in with a black rubberized tape that had to be cut to remove parts. Other than that the instructions were right on.

My Advice

I would say that you have to have experience with this kind of repair and be comfortable working with electronics and the ever-lingering fear that you will break something. You need to be able to tell how much you can push, pull, or flex something and that is just a sense that techy people have.

I was most afraid of the soldering but that was actually very easy. Once I heated the solder pads on the battey cable they came right off very easily, solder and cable together! I was left with a very clean board to solder the new cable to.

My Problem

Weak battery after recharge duration was only 25 min.

My Fix

It was very easy to open the IPOD. I fallow youtube short movie.

But I had to open the IPOD 3 times.

1. Battery was not charging after installation

2. IPOD need to be cool to use

3. Happy! Happy! Happy! finally. Working great. Charging well.

The contact between the battery and the IPOD need to be perfect. Thin.

Thank you IFIXIT ! For the next battery change I will do the same.

My Advice

Heath well with hair dryer before open the IPOD with the tool from IFIXIT. When open the IPOD do it carefully. Do not use tools to open on the camera side. Open slowly. When remove the battery heath before under battery. Not much. Few minutes. After bingo. The connection of the battery need to be very thin.

Good luck !

My Problem

My son's iTouch's battery was only lasting for about 25 min. - very annoying. After reading the repair manual, I decided to give it a try.

My Fix

The repair went just like the manual suggested. I really appreciated the warnings offered in the manual as well as other people that made suggestions of caution. I can't believe how much glue is used to hold the 4th generation iTouch together. That was pretty annoying, especially trying to get the battery out. Does it really need to be glued that secure? Wow!

My Advice

I scratched the black paint on the underside of the display glass somehow with the plastic opening tool. It doesn't show too bad, but that is the only problem I had with the repair. One other suggestion is to flatten the glue down with a tool and then use a heat gun to warm it when putting the display glass back on.

My Problem

La Bateria ya no estaba funcionando bien por lo que decidí cambiársela yo mismo.

My Fix

My Advice

My Problem

The battery stopped charging.

My Fix

The new battery arrived quickly. The guide was very thorough.

My Advice

Follow the guide and your repair should be successful.

My Problem

The battery was not keeping charge

My Fix

It went well (Be careful with the internal speaker... it breaks easily...)

My Advice

The warning about the internal speaker is well written but read the steps at least 3 times before doing it.... to be sure.
