My Problem

My earpiece had lost its sound. Also the battery had no juice left

My Fix

The repair did not have any issues, however, the torx screwdriver required to open the iphone bottom screws was missing in the kit. The one i got was bigger than required. Found another torx kit to do the repairs. Not happy about the missing screwdriver. Apart from that... great work.

My Advice

Not really!! :)

My Problem

Earpiece speaker was frustratingly quiet, and the battery was starting to wear down to a point that it would run dead before the end of the day.

My Fix

Removing the front glass panel was the most difficult part, but with some patience once the tool slipped in - everything went smoothly. The earpiece replacement was a breeze, along with the battery. Total time was probably around 30 mins.

Interestingly, I took apart the speaker, and found that the thin membrane around the speaker assembly was partially torn, causing the muted sound. The new was was at least 50% louder.

My Advice

Patience, I ended up using two pry tools. As soon as I could get one in with an edge, I left it there and used another to release the clips around the glass panel.

My Problem

Earpiece speaker on my iPhone 5 started failing and 90% of the time I couldn't hear anything from whoever I was speaking with unless using the loud speaker.

My Fix

I ordered a replacement earpiece speaker from iFixit and as far as tools go, I already had the iFixit toolkit, which is a gadget repair savior. Everything was explained in excellent detail on the website. This was my first time opening my iPhone by myself and performing a repair. Couldn't have gone any better.

My Advice

1) Be careful when pulling up the screen. Some people underestimate the importance of pulling up on the screen carefully. It could come up faster than expected and next thing you know, you've ripped the cables at the top of the iPhone that connect the camera, etc..

2) Use a small plastic painters platter to set down your screws. Reason I say use this is because it has several indents and you can use each one for different size screws so you don't get them mixed up.

My Problem

No sound was coming out of the ear speaker. Ear speaker would only work if I press to the right side of the speaker

My Fix

The repair was easy enough, the iFixit with was very good and easy to follow. The speaker that I purchased from iFixit worked, unfortunately the problem was not the speaker. I am still trying to trouble shoot it. The next thing I will do is to replace the front camera with the cable as I have read that people that had a similar issue solved it by replacing the cable.

My Advice

Be aware that I have found several issues that could be causing the problem of no sound coming out of the ear speaker. The easiest one to solve is software related. Some people have solved it by turning bluetooth and wifi off and restarting the phone, soft resets, or even a full restore of the phone. There are other multiple hardware issues that range from very easy to fix; such as cleaning the headphones jack and inserting and removing the headphone connector into the jack, to what I did. Replacing the speaker and connector cables. I also just found out from a local repair shop, that something else that could cause the issue is a bad battery that has expanded, therefore separating the speaker connectors. I hope this helps!

My Problem

Earpiece dropped out unless held down with finger while listening.

My Fix

Ordered the Earpiece Speaker first. Didn't resolve the issue. Should have known given it went in and out. Ordered the camera/flex cable and replaced that. Works like a charm again. if you're having the same issue, order both parts.

My Advice

Stripped a screw out in my adventure. Ordered the screw kit. Once I found the right screw, worked like a charm. Thanks IFIXIT.

My Problem

The handset dropped out of my jacket pocket and landed in the toilet bowl. I fished it out quickly BUT the damage was done. Several hours in a container of calcium chloride drying agent brought the handset back to life, but no earpiece sound and an unreliable lightning connection.

My Fix

The repair went well and the phone is fully functional again. Only one scare when one of the strip line cables on the logic board suffered a broken coaxial connector (it parted from the cable when getting it off). Fortunately I had a spare from my wife's phone after a terminal drowning incident. Must be a genitic issue with phones and water!

My Advice

I used a LED based mag lamp to assist my failing eyesight and an old cardboard box lid to minimise the loss of any bits on the floor. I also used small squares of cardboard to attach screws etc. with magic tape.

My Problem

top speaker needed to be replaced. Apple store wanted 60$ and i paid for it and it breaks the next day. i go in again and explain the problem- They wanted an Additional 90$ to fix and again and replace the screen (which was in perfect condition). I said screw it ill do it myself

My Fix

Friend fixed it it under 10 mn. Apple store took about 40

My Advice

rather easy you just need the right tools and the part was cheap and works fine now

My Problem

I had severe problem with the ear speaker and it started to develope battery discharge issues. I live in a remote area where servicing will take 2-3 weeks. And I have a terrible fixation with understanding everything I use.

My Fix

The repair when swimmingly, until I got a little over zealous with cleaning the guts out with a cotten swab and isopropyl alcohol. I broke off a (what I assume to be a shield contact arm for the ear speaker) thing, and soldered it back together. I cleaned both parts with aforementioned alcohol and put just a titch liquid RMA flux on both. Then while the flux dried I set my iron to 200c. I then applied just a scosch of solder to both sides of the joint and joined them. Clean again (more carefully) test the joint are voila!

My Advice

Read the above. Be patient, thorough, and patient. And don't forget Occam's Razor.

My Problem

My iphone 5 went through the wash cycle in my coverall pocket. Everything recovered except the earpiece speaker (speakerphone still worked) the rear facing camera. The front camera works until you try to use the rear camera then the phone has to be shut off to get the front camera to work again.

My Fix

The earpiece speaker was a snap, it took under 10 minutes & worked perfectly the first try. The rear camera is still not working, I am going back in to see if I can find out why.

My Advice

Don't wash your iphone.

My Problem

headset speaker no workie

My Fix

easy peasy. 2 pentalobes. 2 teeny philips. In and out. Ordered the new iSclack for future repairs as the hardest part is yanking the screen off.

My Advice

order an iSclack so you can take the screen off easier. Nothing worse than pulling too hard and ripping the cables.
