My Problem

The computer had started shutting down randomly.

My Fix

With no prior experience, I used ifixit's website and youtube video to help me repair the iMac. It worked!

My Advice

Watch for falling rocks.

My Problem

My computer was squealing faintly, like some car in the distance with a slipping belt. I notice it did it more when screen brightness was higher, or when the computer was doing anything processor intensive.

My Fix

Repair was a piece of cake. I've opened this imac 5 times now i think, to put in a new ssd, clean out dust, etc. Taking the screen of is most of the work, and thats easy as long as you are careful. The new power supply from iFixit seems to have done the trick. computer is near silent again, especially when hd is spun down.

My Advice

First, use tweezers to hold the lcd screws as you take them out, cuz the magnets want to grab them. Use the tweezers when putting them back too. Also get a good large microfiber cloth and carefully wipe down the lcd screen and inside of glass cover. it may take a few tries but you can get all the dust specs that will inevitably be there. Next, when first pulling the power supply out take your time and don't force it . Wiggle each corner in a one after the other sequence to work it out of the plastic frame. Finally, a spudger is very helpful with getting that large power connector undone.

My Problem

Fried i-Mac due to massive power surge spike; indication suggested power supply shot.

My Fix

Initially thought PC gone to IT heaven with all my data as had my back up hard drive due to the same event.

Googled and found iFixit YouTube video of pretty geeky bespectacled blonde lady video showing step by step dismantling of the same model iMac. It looked easy enough. Ordered parts and tools from iFixit which arrived exactly one week from US to remote outback Australia.

My Advice

Excited but with trepidation proceeded to emulate video sequence and 20 minutes later ready & hit power button and.....nothing black screen!

Dismayed made a coffee then came back to the machine ready to strip it down again then noticed oopsy power cord not connected! Connected and and switched on voila it worked perfectly.

A big thank you iFixit and geeky blonde lady :)

My Problem

My iMac was making an annoying humming noise and I was unable to do any home recording without getting a lot of electrical noise

My Fix

It went really smoothly. The directions on fixit.com were really through.

My Advice

But the tools they offer. It would have been much harder without the tools.

My Problem

Problème de bruit parasite

My Fix

Parfait. Comme d'habitude avec ifixit ;)

My Advice

Les cables sont un peu chiants à débrancher...

My Problem

I use my iMac for video editing and for DJing to analyse my songs.

Out of the blue, my iMac wasn't turning on and sometimes not.

I brought it to the apple service centre and told me the problem and the cost was so expensive!

My Fix

When i saw the repair and detailed it was, i decided to do it myself.

In addition, i thought of including an additional upgrade as well to boost the machine.

My Advice

Thanks to Ifixit! Awesome job on the repair docs!

My Problem

One day I pressed the power button to turn on my iMac and it was totally dead. I tried to follow some instructions on the Apple website but nothing happened. I did read some similar experiences on internet so I realized that the power supply was gone.

My Fix

I ordered the new power supply on ifixit.com and followed the guide to replace it. It was really easy!

My Advice

When you replace a piece, follow meticulously the guide!

My Problem

One day I've turned on my iMac 21.5'' iMac and worked one it for about 30 minutes, then i went for a quick meal to my kitchen :) after i got back I've noticed that iMac is off, I've tried to turn it on but there was no signs of life whats so ever, straight away i went on to ifixit.com forums throe my laptop and searched what could be causing that and i found few ways how to test it, so i took it apart and ind out that its 99% that this is the power supply fault.

My Fix

To be honest the repair is so easy when you follow every step on ifixit guides, i think anyone can manage to fix anything, it only took about 20-30 minutes to disassemble my iMac and put it back together and the main thing is that i did everything right from first go :)))

My Advice

Just read every single step on the guide carefully and don't be in a rush with your repair, if your trying to fix it as fast as its possible you might break it faster than fix it :)

My Problem

My Fix

Tuve qué seguir las instrucciones del video de Ifixit para hacer la instalación. Pero al final todo quedo en orden y quedo como nueva

My Advice

Tengan cuidado cuando van a desconectar el LCD , porque Ahy cuatro cables que desconectar, o al menos ese fue mi caso.

My Problem

Came downstairs one day to find my computer off. Strange comsidering I always leave it on. Pressung the power button yeilded nothing. No fans, beeps or anything to suggest power. I got on the web and found this site. After reading many comments I came to the conclusion I may have a faulty power supply.

My Fix

I ordered the part and it arrived quickly. I used the guide on the site to replace the old power supply only to find out it was not the trouble maker. While my mac was opened I checked my LED status lights (something I would reccomend doing first next time) to discover I was getting 1 LED while plugged in but, pressing the power button made no progress nor did it light any other LEDs. After posting a question about my dilemma I was quickly answered by one of the fine people on this site. Our agreed opinions matched that I must have a bad logic board. Booooooo. I have a feeling it may have been caused by using a third party usb hub something I have now found to be a major problem with iMacs. If only I had known! Although my story ended badly I still will continue to use ifixit for all my needs because they did a fantastic job of helping me every step of the way. Thanks for trying guys! Wish me luck on finding the cheapest solution to my logic board issues and thanks again for the recommendation of ebay logic board repair businesses!

My Advice

Always buy extended warranties for anything that costs a crap ton of money!
