I am an electrical engineer and always making different various embedded microprocessors. In recent days, I am thinking about this project, why embedded microprocessors can be widely acceptable by most people. What makes embedded microprocessors different from other microprocessors is that Embedded system hardware layer is the core of embedded microprocessors, embedded microprocessors and general-purpose CPU.
The difference is that most of the embedded microprocessors work in a system designed specifically for a particular user group, which integrates many of the tasks done by the board into the chip, which facilitates the miniaturization of the embedded system at design time, But also with high efficiency and reliability.
The architecture of the embedded microprocessor can adopt the von Neumann system or the Harvard architecture. The instruction system can use the Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) and the Complex Instruction Set (CISC). The RISC computer only contains the most useful instructions in the channel, ensuring that the data channel performs each instruction quickly, improving execution efficiency and making the CPU hardware design easier.
Embedded microprocessors have a variety of different systems, even in the same system may also have different clock frequency and data bus width, or integrated different peripherals and interfaces. According to incomplete statistics, the world has more than 1,000 kinds of embedded microprocessors, the system has more than 30 series, including the mainstream system ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, X86 and SH and so on.
