Background and Identification
Produced by Motorola, the Moto G6 Play released on June 14, 2018, as the most basic model in the G6 line. As a cheaper alternative to the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus, it downgrades on advanced features like 1080p resolution and a glass back to lower the price for the budget friendly market.
Positives of the Moto G6 Play include a good battery life, a surprisingly good screen, and a great price value. Moreover, the Moto G6 Play has 32GB storage which is a great deal for the phone’s price.
Negatives include a slow camera with mediocre night photo capabilities, and a scrolling software bug. Also, the screen resolution is a downgrade from the Moto G5’s 1080p and the chipset, the Snapdragon 430, is the same as the Moto G5.
The Moto G6 Play has a plastic back with reflective elements, unlike the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus which have curved Gorilla Glass rear panels. However, the plastic looks quite sleek as it does not flex under hand pressure, has the same reflective elements under the top layer as the other more expensive models in the G6 range, and has aluminum on the sides. Even though the Moto G6 Play has a large screen at 5.7”, the phone itself is not huge, making it easier to handle.
For its price, it is one of the most aesthetic phones consumers can find.
