YLOD repair then relapse

Used YLOD kit and ended up with 4 extra 9mm screws. Worked fine then re-YLODed. Used guide again, replaced thermal paste, put back together, somewhat wonky looking, with 4 9mm screws left. Unit goes to instant YLOD when started. What do I do? Can this be fixed?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I actually used the guide to do this, twice in fact. Will I need to take it apart, remove the thermal paste (which there is a fair amount of), and redo? Also, could I use the heat gun from the kit to heat the board if that would help? The front of the PS3 doesn't look put back together right, and I am still have 4 "extra" 9mm screws, is there a reassemble guide? Thanks for the help.

Perhaps you should try actually reflowing/reballing the CPU, if you haven't yet.

Google it :P

I don't think a heat gun is the best way to reflow something anymore, after using one on several things. I think a micro torch/ small propane torch would work better, since its easier to control.

The heat gun's heat spreads out too much, usually, and melts plastic things.

Anyway, that's just my opinion

theunknown, I would suggest you start off by using this guide. Follow it as described, it does have a high rate of success. Most reasons why it may fail is that people are not aggressive enough for the reflow. Just like anything else, this may only be a temporary fix. Only a complete reflow will be more permanent. Hope this helps, good luck.
