Microphone not working after upgrading hard drive

My iMac internal microphone is not working after upgrading the hard disk. I think the cable or actual microphone has been damaged. I'm 90% sure that the two parts of the cable are plugged correctly together.

What can I do to diagnose the problem and find the correct replacement parts?

Go over your reassembly and verify your connectors are indeed connected. Sometimes it looks as though you made a solid connection but it's not "square" or firm.

If you know that you damaged a connector a simple work around is an external microphone. If you are doing skype or facetime a voice recognition microphone/headset is a good idea anyway.

Thanks for the input. I'd really like to get the internal microphone working again. On inspection I see that the cable has come way from the microphone itself. How does one fix this? Replace the whole assembly or attempt to solder it back on?

Soldering is an advanced DIY project it takes special tools, solder and lots & lots of practice...An electronics repair shop might do it for you faster/better than you trying to obtain the tools and experience. Not every fix is a DIY one.
