Is my screen broken?

Hi Guys,

Someone gave me an old PowerBook G4 12in a few days ago. I have other, better computers, but this one has a special place in my heart because I always wanted one when it came out, all those years ago.

Anyways, the thing boots, makes the apple sound, but the screen stays black.

I just wanted to run it past you and see if you think its the CFL tube or the entire screen. I have shined a flashlight against the screen, and can see nothing, so I am assuming that the whole thing is bad.

I don't mind spending the $20 bucks or so for a replacement; I would rather do that then scrap her. I just wanted to see what you all thought.

Thanks for the help!

Hook it up to an external monitor to check the GPU. Boot it in target mode to test the hard drive and repair it if needed. Here's how to do it:
