Hi!
This can be due to dirt and grime build up.Try cleaning the joystick.
Here is cleaning instructions from the Troubleshooting page:
Dirty Joystick Modules
Through everyday use a joystick can collect dirt, grime, and crumbs which can become lodged in components. This can make the controller less responsive to inputs or falsely respond to no input due to the buildup. To try and fix this try cleaning the area around the joysticks using canned air or a bristle brush/microfiber cloth. This will hopefully clean any debris causing issues.
If this doesn't work, then it is likely that the joystick is worn out (especially if it is old).
