This sounds like a so called dead-lock. It is quite similar to a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).
Are you doing anything in particular whenever this happens, running any particular application? Are there any other symptoms that happens before or simultaneously? How long does it take from that your starting your laptop until it crashes?
It is quite likely that it is an application that is causing this.
With nothing more to go on, I would recommend to make sure that everything is up to date. That would be Windows Update, Firmware, Drives, BIOS drives. If you can identify any applications you are running while this problem occurs, make sure that they are up to date too. You can find your Dell related drivers on their support page.
You should also check how high your ram usage is, is it maxing out? How about temperature?
There are a lot of other things that can cause strange behavior too, but it is easiest to start with the software side. If it still persists, then you'd have to look at potential hardware failures. Just type a response if the software problem solutions does not work and I'll tell you what to check in terms of hardware :)
Edit: Here is a Dell troubleshooting guide for Dell Freezes that is worth checking too! Dell Laptop Frozen
Good luck,
