Repair guides, support, and troubleshooting information for the first 13-inch MacBook Air to feature Apple's ARM-based M1 SoC (with an 8-core CPU and up to an 8-core GPU). Released in November 2020 and identified by model numbers A2338 or EMC 3598.

Same "Service Recommended" message even after battery replacement

Hello,

I had a battery "Service Recommended" message on my MacBook Air M1 (A2338)

I replaced it with a new iFixit battery, but I still have the crossed-out battery icon in the menu bar and the "Service Recommended" message.

CoconutBattery shows all values as zero (as if the battery isn’t detected at all).

Could this be caused by a faulty or poorly connected battery flex cable (the small connector cable)?

Or is there something more serious going on?

Thanks in advance for any advice or hints!

For the context: I had a light water spill that made some keys stop working, I replaced the keyboard myself. Everything went smoothly: the laptop powers on and works perfectly.
But during the keyboard replacement, I accidentally tore off the battery temperature sensor and thought the issue was about that

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You mentioned that "I accidentally tore off the battery temperature sensor and thought the issue was about that"

There is your problem and you already have the answer ;)

You'll have to get that sensor fixed before anything else.

Thank you for the reply!

That's exactly what I was thinking too.

I tried cleaning the sensor on the original battery and sticking it back on with some thermal paste and tape, but it didn't help at all.

So I went ahead and ordered a replacement battery and swapped it in. Turns out the sensor is actually built into the little circuit board that comes with the battery. The iFixit one I got doesn't seem to have that sensor at all though.

Are you sure that's what's causing the problem?
