Released November 2020, the PS5 console features vastly upgraded visuals and an innovative new Dualsense controller. The space-age black-and-white color scheme is a noticeable departure from PlayStation designs of the past.

All usb ports are not working

I had a customer bring me his 1st gen ps5. All of his usb ports are not working. None are broken. No bent pins. Nothing. Never been opened. Did my research and found that the south bridge could be the culprit. I ordered the replacement. Swapped the chip in. Issue remains. I’m stumped. Please help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi!

Did you tried to replace the USB board as well..? Just in case!

Could be a small issue like in the ribbon cable!

Otherwise,,, it is something related on the motherboard somewhere..

But it’s all usb ports. I will try and remove the ribbon cable to see if that starts the other ones working.

Didn’t work.

Ahh, then I have some bad news I'm afraid...

It must be on the motherboard at this point and it could be the following IC's:

- CXD90061GG I/O controller

- Texas Instruments TPS2001D

- Texas Instruments TUSB1044

The location of the IC's can be found here: PlayStation 5 Teardown (Step 8).

Hopefully you will get it fixed!

@dan0 thanks for the info. I’ve replaced the south bridge already. Issue remained. I replaced 3 of the usb ic’s. Issue remains. I’m really stumped.

That is really weird... It must be another IC causing this.

Do you have another motherboard to test? Just to replace and see if that works?

Thanks for the article but unfortunately I can’t do any of those steps because the system was factory reset and due to the usb ports not working, no controllers will connect to the system.
