Degreasing internal parts of iPhone

Ive taken apart a few iphones with no real problems, But ive noticed on a few of the questions here, it is recommended to use alcohol or windex to degrease certain parts when you take apart the phone.

My question though is what is the method used to clean the parts? are people just soaking a q-tip or something similar in alcohol and cleaning the part, or is there a better method for degreasing internal parts, and what parts exactly are necessary to degrease?

Options

During repair of iPhones never, ever apply anything to the iPhone connectors. If you are dealing with liquid damage and there is corrosion, use only Isopropyll Alcohol.

Im not so much cleaning liquid damaged or corrosion, I was more referring to the oil that may come off of my own hands, while working on the device. Is that something to be concerned about, or not so much?
