Will a ribbon cable stop MacBook from turning on?

I've brought a Macbook Pro 15 (2008) from ebay. The listing says that he tried to installed additional RAM and that while he was doing this a cable got ripped.

"THE PROBLEM WITH IT IS IT HAD 2GB MEMORY AND I BOUGHT A 4GB SO WHEN I CAME TO PUT IN THE MEMORY, THE CABLE GOT RIPPED, MAYBE THIS CABLE IS COMING FROM THE MOUSE PAD OR SPEAKERS NOT SURE BUT ITS A CABLE THAT RIPPED."

What ribbon cables are there in the Macbook that would cause the Mac to not turn on?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

It would certainly cause an issue in your MacBook Pro to rip a ribbon cable. Can you include a picture of the cable you ripped, please.

this way we can know for sure what does the ribbon cable is for...

The connector that is broke is for the battery tester on the side on the case.
