SSD or HDD in PATA bay?

MacBook Core2Duo A1181

I've bougth a SSD and DVD bay to upgrade my MacBook. The bay is PATA to SATA, because old superdrives are PATA on these MacBooks.

I plan on using the SSD for system files and apps, and the current HDD for my media. I use my computer for music creation, so I need quite fast access to my HDD.

Where should I put my new SSD ?

- In place of the current HDD : my system will boot very fast, and so will my apps. But what about my HDD behind the PATA interface ? Will it be quick enough ?

- In the bay ? Will I see any improvement using a SSD behind a PATA interface ?

There should be no noticeable lag or difference if you have a high quality conversion. The bus speed at either port should be sufficient for your use. Only you can determine if there's an "improvement". Some people get very wrapped up in computer speed minutiae - for most uses/applications a human will not recognize any difference.

Thanks for the reply.

I did receive the package in the mean time, so I installed the SSD on the SATA port and my old HDD in the caddy.

Everything is rolling, now, I'm launching OS X in ~20 seconds and my apps start in a snap. My audio files are very quickly accessible. I'd recommend this kind of update to anyone with a similar computer.
