Connectivity problem — flash drive plug in

Connector between iPad and flash drive. Was reading flash drive automatically when connected. Now flash drive lights up but nothing happens. I know flash drive is OK. How do I get iPad to read flash drive?

Can you tell us which model you have as there are differences between the series. Go to Settings and under General control and then About and just tell us the models name and size that should do it.

9th generation. Latest iPadOS. I forget the name of the connector but it used to work. As far as I can tell, the only way to read it is to plug it in and the flashing light nthe flas drive shows you it’s being read. Well, it lights up, but no flashing, and the flas drive doesn’t show up in the ‘files’app.

The fla#h drive still functions normally. Plugged in to my laptop.

If it used to work and now it doesn’t, this could be a few things in my experience. It might help to know what happened between the last time it worked and now.

First thing I would try is to restart the iPad. If this is still unsuccessful a few options below.

  1. Verify the adapter you’re using works, assuming you’re using one. Check for any damage, (discolored or bent pins, kinks in the cable if there is one) is free from any damage. See if it works with other Apple products if you have any.
  2. Has it been connected to other devices? Will it connect to other devices? If yes, I would move any data you don’t ant to lose off the flash drive, reformat it using exFAT if you will be using it with multiple platforms or APFS if you’re only using it with Apple products.

Turning the iPad off and on did not solve the problem. There are no other devices I have that I can plug the adapter into. There are no adapter is : lightning to USB camera OTG adapter for iPhone, which is the correct adapter. I’ll check for ent pins, etc. if I can.
