I would like to upgrade my ram, (already upgrading my Hard drive to 1TB).

I was considering upgrading the ram to 16GB (2x8GB), i would like to know if there are any negative effects to doing that?

You need a newer model Macbook Pro (post 2008) to use 16GB RAM. 3GB is your max. Either 2GB + 1GB or 2-4GB chips.
