When I first start up the camera its black screen and buzzes stops after a while, but lens never focus, and it will display "error occurred please turn unit off then turn on again."

Does the camera work OK when the charger is connected to it?
If it does, just wondering if the battery is failing and needs to be replaced.
If it is the battery, search online for either VW-VBT190 or VW-VBT380 to find suppliers that suit you best. (One of these part numbers should be on the battery in the camera).
Here's a link to the service manual that may help.
Download the manual and then go to p.15 in the manual and check if you can get into Service mode and if so, go to Service mode menu #5 and check what is shown - see p.18

No the camera is still having the same problem even when it's connected to a charger.
