Dual Boiler making loud zapping noise

Has anyone experienced this noise: https://vimeo.com/988433453/d1f1979d2d?s...

It happens a bit immediately at the start of the video but more clearly between .13 seconds and .17 seconds.

Sometimes the sound is much more pronounced and longer. The pressure will drop to zero for a duration and then right back up to 9 again.

Thanks for any help

@steve43116 let's see if the iFixit coffee maker guru @vauweh can shed some light on this.

@steve43116 I have not worked on this device until now, so I'm only guessing. My ideas:

  • There must be some type of overpressing valve. Perhaps this is the culprit.
  • A second possibility could be a broken solenoid valve.
  • I found an interesting discussion.
  • This Video.
  • And of course our guide.

Thanks very much for your thorough and quick response!

I'm unsure whether it would be the group head collar. I am able to get the pressure up to 9+... it's just the random zaps/drops that happen occasionally.

I am going to look into the solenoid. Did a real quick search and it sounds like this could be the culprit!

BTW - your guide is awesome! I'm going to hang on to it, in the (hopefully not) event I do have an issue with it.

Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes once I replace the solenoid.

If the coffee doesn't wake you up that sure would!

I can't be sure but I suspect your compression pump is failing.
