I HAVE THE ANSWER... Well it worked for me... Bottom mic wasn't working after I did a dock replacement home-diy style.. i plugged all cables / screws back in, mic wasn't working, (thought i'd screwed the iphone up) then i took apart again, and realised I didn't take the off the sticky plastic protector peel off thing on the mic.. easy fix, and may sound stupid, but it did it for me; its so small, but just rub or peel it off. MINT!!!

I also just replaced dock connector and I remember removing several tiny pieces of plastic covering sticky bits but don't remember any on mic, maybe that's why I had such a hard time putting that part back together. Going back in...

Thanks Patrick!! you are my life saver! I did the same as you then the mic is working like a charm!! Cheers!

Samer, since you already change the flex, and I am sure did a restore and reset, I does sound like the error is caused by the mic itself. I would try and replace the dock connector with the mic. the part is available from places like this. Hope this helps, good luck.

sometimes its just a problem of software. Retsore to latest version through iTunes. if still not working then change the flex (bottom dock connecter). this resolve the problem . if still not get solved then its a logic board. Go to apple service centre if this is in warranty . otherwise have to repair the logic board.

99% is becoz of dock connecter... and 1% of logic board.

I was having this same issue.. and there are 2 things that might help! I run a repair shop and had this issue as well...

1. Check that the mic hole on the top of the iPhone, next to the headset jack isn't blocked. sometimes smudge or dirt can easily get trapped there.

2. This had fix 2 iPhones 4 that have this same issue.

There is a screw inside on top of the iPhone's Battery, where an EMI plate is there. Well better yet, let me post you a picture. For ease.

Well, that screw thats under another screw... loose the bottom screw a little bit. And that might fix your issue.

Let me know how it worked for you!

hello, many of these cases have appeared in my technical assistance and after removing the rear cover and a pci precionar in connection the microphone works normally, but need some expert to analyze the electrical schematic and indicate what components to solve the problem re-weld.

I have 3 solutions

this works on Iphone 4

i have tested all 3 of them, and have had success with all 3 solutions..

The Problem:

Iphone 4 lower microphone stops working.

recording video and memos works fine, but people cant hear me during calls.

just to clear things up for everyone...

when using video recording, memos or anthing else that can record your voice, the iphone is using the TOP MICROPHONE.

when calling/getting calls the iphone will be using the LOWER MICROPHONE.

When you put it on "Speaker" then the phone will use both.

Solution 1:

Change the Dock Connector

if that wont work... then....

Solution 2:

Click on this link, and follow the instructions, on how to fix the Compiler Chip.

iPhone audio problem: fixing an audio compiler chip fault

sounds and looks wierd...., but yes it works....

done it with multiple phones so far...

if solution 1 does not fix the problem, then solution 2 should help allot.....

should the problem still persist, then you might have a problem with your Home button.

See Solution 3 for more info

Solution 3:

Change the Home button.

this last solution was the problem solver for me... i had 7 dock connecters, new and from other broken phones i tested with.

in the end, the home button just gave up when i was swapping around, then i just replaced it, and Voila.... my microphone was working again, and my home button was working too :D

i cant really explain what really happend, but its my 4th iphone i have had these problems with, and all has been repaired with these 3 simple solutions...

i really hope it can help alot of people in here, with issues with iphone 4 microphones not working

Hello!

I have the same problem. I changed the Dock connector, put a plastic on the audio chip, and restored the phone.

The microphone isn't working and when I plug in a headset it doesn't work, too.

Also it doesn't work with the loudspeaker.

Before putting the plastic on the audio chip, the phone had problems with the speaker, too. it interrupted the sound and sometimes I couldn't hear anything. but now it works.

just the microphone still doesn't work.

My I phone 4 speaker works on and off, sometimes I ring and it's fine but other times it's not working so to get it to work I have to whack the phone against something a few times put it back to my ear and it works!! For a little while then stops working during the next call, this indicates a loose wire? Loose Connection? Help! I've tried the plastic wedge trick behind the mother board on the chip but hasn't worked. It's the same when I'm using Siri.
