My iMac backlight went out what would fix it?

hi, i have an intel imac 17"

Hardware Overview:

a week ago my backlight went out. i can still see screen on lcd if i shine flashlight. it had two pink vertical lines about an inch apart on the lcd for a while.. the dvi out works fines. when i power on the imac the screen lights up like normal for a split second. has anyone else had this issue or know a solution?

so i replace inverter, and now have working backlight again. but is there a way to fix lines on lcd? ill take a pic and add it. theres one on each side of big white line. i can live with the little lines but the big white on drives me crazy.

Chosen Solution

Usually if you can see the desktop the problem is with the inverter. I would check the cable connections and replace the inverter first as it's much cheaper than the LCD.

all connections and stuff are good.ordered inverter off ebay so should be able to try that tomorrow. if its not inverter what else could it be? is it safe to test bulbs on another inverter if inverter doesnt fix? and if it were found to be bad bulbs is there a good general guide to replacing? also any ideas about pink line? possible dead pixels? thanks again mayer

Replacing the bulbs in an LCD is not for the faint of heart or novice. I can get you to the guides but lets wait till you've tried the inverter and your results before going there.
