Dishwasher confused. It suddenly drains water, then it resumes cycle

The dishwasher had some issues before. From time to time it was beeping signaling it couldn't drain water while it was in fact empty. A workaround was just pouring a few liters of water inside, manually. This would allow it to complete the cycle.

However, since yesterday, I noticed my dishwasher starts the cycle but after a while it suddenly drain the water. When done, it tries to resume the cycle. But since there's no water anymore, I can hear the water pump (not the drain pump) running. If I pour some water manually, the cycle just resumes. Unfortunately, this drain-resume behavior repeats so the cycle itself never ends (or at least I kept doing it for three times without noticing anything different).

Any ideas? :)

PS: I have experience with repairs in general, but not with dishwashers.

It sounds like your dishwasher is caught in a confusing loop! From your description, it seems like there might be an issue with the water level sensor or the inlet valve. Since you've already tried pouring water manually to kickstart the cycle, it indicates that the dishwasher is not sensing the water level properly.

One possible solution to try is checking the inlet valve for any blockages or malfunctions. Over time, mineral deposits or debris can accumulate and prevent the valve from allowing water to flow in properly. Cleaning or replacing the inlet valve might help resolve the issue.

Additionally, it's worth inspecting the water level sensor to ensure it's functioning correctly. This sensor is responsible for detecting the water level inside the dishwasher, and if it's faulty or obstructed, it could cause the erratic draining behavior you're experiencing.

Given your experience with repairs, you might feel comfortable tackling these tasks yourself. Just remember to disconnect the dishwasher from power and water sources before attempting any repairs, and consult the appliance's manual or online resources for guidance specific to your model.

Hopefully, addressing the inlet valve or water level sensor will help your dishwasher break free from its drain-resume cycle and complete its wash cycle successfully! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

Thanks for your interest :)

After all it seems to be an issue with the pressostat. It's an analog one. In the pipe connecting it to the bottom of the dishwash, I found some dirt that was most likely affecting its readings.

I now cleaned the pipe, but before putting everything back together I'd like to understand if the pipe of the pressostat is supposed to be filled with water of not. I would imaging the idea it to just sense the air pressure, but I would appreciate a confirmation from someone who knows dishwashers more than me :)
