Beer spill, screen has 2 inch line down the centre

Hi all

just stumbled on this great site!

I was doing a dj gig last Saturday when an over keen dj spilt probably 50ml worth of beer along the bottom of my mbp's screen. I immediately unplugged everything and left to to dry for 48hrs. It now powers up with no problems at all except for the screen with has lost many colours and looks mostly white in appearance. There is also a 2 inch thick line down the centre of the screen. Eveerything else appears to be fine.

I took it to an auth apple dealer and they quoted me £2000 for a new logic board, screen, top case and keyboard. Obviously this is more than the cost of the machine so no go. But the engineer did concede that he had to recommend all of the repair work as a precaution.

My question is what to do next really? Is it worth paying £250-400 for a screen repair? Worth opening it up again and having a go at cleaning the board myself? If so how?

Thanks for reading this post in advance, any help greatly appreciated.

Tom

Well, it seems that the only thing wrong with the computer is the screen, and not the logic board like the apple dealer said. This site has guides to replace just about everything in this computer, and you could get a whole screen assembly for this computer for about $200 on eBay, but if you are comfortable doing this yourself, it isn't that hard. IT is also much easier to replace the screen assembly then the LCD panel itself.

Good advice. Apple always adds extra "precautions" to their repairs.
