MacBook is not turning on?

Hey Guys,

Got given an M1 MacBook Air by work as it wouldn’t turn on and was just wondering if anyone had any advice to test and see if it was indeed fully dead?

Tried charging it for a bit and got nothing, including no sound from the speaker or light from the caps lock key. Put it back in the box afterwards, which was a month go, and am doing a clean out so would love to get it working!

Thanks (:

Dead as a door nail systems are always tricky! The newer MacBook Pro systems at least offered a MagSafe port so you could see if there is even power getting in.

With the Airs it’s tougher as we need to use an inline power meter to see the power MakerHawk USB-C power meter. With it you should be able to see if the system is even charging.

Do you know any of the history of this system why is was not working back then? As it could be as simple as needing a new battery or more complex issue where the systems logic board is bad.

We still have one more obstacle! As the person who gave you the system will need to release it from their iCloud account as the systems security needs to be cleared. That also means you need to have the system able to phone home to get the message it’s alright to work for the next owner.

Hi TmG

I would advise you to first attempt to boot it up in recovery mode.
