Hook it up to an external monitor to try to trace where the problem is. Along with the external monitor, try booting from the original system installation disk. Can you see the desktop faintly? Why did you re-place the screen and cable and where did those parts come from and are you sure they're correct?

i can't see anything on the display and that is why i bought a new screen and cable.

how do i hook it up to an external monitor if i can't see anything on the display screen (i dont know the quick keys for it to show on the external screen)

Use the side DVI port with an external monitor, it may light right up. If you can only find a VGA monitor you will need an adapter such as this: DVI to VGA Adapter

it didn't work so what does that mean?

Most likely your NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video processor has failed. Apple has a recall on this so if you were getting color artifacts on the screen before it went out, call Apple and tell them about the artifacts and that it went out afterwards and they will replace your logic board for free.
