Mac beeps three times upon startup?

When I push the power button on my Macbook, I can hear it starting up, then I hear three beeps continuously with a black screen - then I power it off. I have tried brand new ram sticks. That didn't work. I tried to reset the PRAM, and that didn't work either. It is an early 2008 2.4 Ghz. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The three beeps indicate a RAM problem. You may not be using the correct RAM for your machine. Please give us the last three figures of your serial number, also the data on the RAM you are trying to use and its history. Did the machine work with the old RAM?

last four digits of the serial number are 88PW. I ordered new ram from OWC. I installed two sticks of Samsung DDR3, 1 Gb. each. Funny thing happened though, when I just had one stick installed in one of the slots, I powered the Mac on and instead of the three beeps contiunuously, I got a steady beeping and then it shut down after about two minutes. What is that all about?

Your machine uses

PC3-8500 DDR3 Min. RAM Speed: 1066 MHz

not saying this is your problem but I had a steady beep and shut down and was ruled out by having a bad ram slot.
