trouble getting the Farberware percolator open

trouble getting the Farberware percolator open

Watching the video, as soon as you remove the 5/16 nut, the bottom comes away. Not mine even though it looks exctly the same (I suspect it is a much older version). Tried placing a knife blade at the junction of the chrome and black plastic and whacking it with a hammer - nada. Any ideas?
