Hard Drive and Blade Flash Drive upgrade

Hi.

Can I upgrade the 1TB HDD and the 32GB Flash storage in my iMac 21.5" 4K Retina 2017?

I am opening up the iMac to upgrade the RAM & HDD to SDD and would also like to upgrade the 32GB Flash storage with OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD

I will be running MacOS Ventura 13.6 and I believe the Firmware combines the 2 Drives into 1? I intend to install the OS on the new SDD and leave the OWC aura-pro-x2-ssd for use as explained in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_Dri...

Im unsure if I'm on the right path as there are a lot of conflicting advice.

Thank you

John

Hey there,

Regarding the hardware you've chosen, you should be on the right track. I'll also link you to iFixit's recommended RAM and secondary SSD upgrade kit. You should be completely fine if you've got your macOS Ventura installation image ready.

My main concern I would appreciate advice on is upgrade of the 32GB Flash storage with OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD?

And I would prefer to go with an Internal SSD rather than an External SSD as is would be less prone to failure and I will the iMac fully torn down

Any advice would be appreciated

John
