I can't figure out what type of firewire port my laptop has.
Is it a Firewire IEEE 1394 6 Pin Female port?

Your MacBook Pro’s FireWire 800 port is a IEEE 1394 complaint port. Here’s a bit more FireWire 800

So the FW port on my Macbook is a 9pin female port ?
@mick9061721 - Yes, but it also supports the older FireWire 400 4- and/or 6-pin connections just at the lower throughput.
