Missing Internal storage on Mac, but it should still be working.

When I turn on my Mac, it pulls up a question mark with a folder, I’ve tried internet recovery with no luck, and using a external boot drive won’t install to my internal, because it thinks there’s nothing inside of it, so I’m not sure what to do now.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Try this:

  • With your Mac shut down press the power button and hold down Command-R keys which will take you to macOS Utilities.
  • Select Disk Utility.
  • Select your startup disk in the sidebar and click First Aid.
  • Restart your computer after Disk First Aid has repaired the system disk.

I am guessing that the drive either corrupted (soft error) or defective (hardware) but @danj would be more authoritative on this. I have edited my answer above with some possible explanations.
