power button no longer works

Power button no longer works to shut down or start my G4 gigabit power mac.

A quick search on your words eventually led me to the following suggestion (below that is the link to the original forum that seems to be related to your topic):

Reset the hardware PMU by pressing the small button near the PRAM battery ONCE briefly. If you're not sure that you pressed it, don't press it again until ~15 seconds have elapsed.

If that doesn't fix it, replace the PRAM battery.

To check the battery without a tester: disconnect from the internet, check the date and time, shut down, then restart. If the time is screwy then the battery is dead. If your printer has been dropping off line, then the battery is going.
