Why does my replacement screen have 8 little plastic latches

My replacement screen has 8 little latches that appear to be intended to insert into the phone securing the face to the phone. The old face did not appear to have these and there is no place for them to insert into. What is going on? Do i have the wrong part?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi Elyssa,

This is something we see more on iPhones than Pixels, but nevertheless it's the same issue.

What's happened is that you've managed to separate the screen from the frame that's supposed to be mounted on the screen and left the frame on the phone instead. If you take a look at the screen being sold by iFixit, you'll see the black frame that's on the screen that's missing on yours.

My guess is you didn't get enough of an angle originally and your pick ended up between the frame and the screen rather than the frame and the phone housing.

Step 8 of the Pixel 6a Screen Replacement guide shows how you should get the screen removal started.

The fix is actually pretty easy; you just have to repeat the screen removal procedure on the frame that's still mounted on the phone housing. It'll be much easier; just go around the edge of the phone and pry the frame out and you'll be all set.
