Does not power on with USB-C Dock.

Hey guys the battery of my Macbook Retina 2017 is defect and won't charge anymore. I usually only use it connected to the power supply so it didn't matter to me much.

But now I bought myself a HDMI USB-C Dock with a 60W Power Delivery Port, but the MacBook won't turn on when I plug in the dock in between the only Thunderbolt Port the device has and the power supply.

The Dock works fine and charges when I plug it into my iPad Pro so the PD function is working. I also bought a 90W USB-C power supply which acts the same (works when plugged in directly but not when the dock is in between.

And I also bought a second dock, but the problem remains, it is like the MacBook does not allow to use the dock when the battery is defective ... any advice?

Options

Is this an Apple certified dock? Some are USB-C only not Thunderbolt which is what you need here.

You are right, it is just an USB-C Dock, but I haven't had problems with my iPad with that one. Is this a specific requirement for that MacBook? Since I know of many friends that also use cheaper USB-C Dock for their MacBooks Pro. But it wasn't one from the original apple store, one I tried was from Am*zon the other one from a retail store.

Apple didn’t offer Thunderbolt functionality in the first USB-C connectorised iPads. So that explains different reaction.

Since my iPad is a iPad Pro, 11" (3. Generation) it is equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 Port, so it must be something else.

Ok, thanks for your help, I didn't knew that a port can be so strangly defective. I would have guessed either it works or it doesn't, since the pins at A4+A9 aswell as B4+B9 work properly.
