leave the laptop on then a bit later the main cooling fan turns on and

This is a Dell Latitude e6440 2014 model. It wouldn't start up, so I checked out the Dell Support web page (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us...) where I found the Self-Heal procedure but didn't help. Then I checked the CMOS coin battery and found that it was dead, I bought a new one and did the Self-Heal and also the full power refresh procedure written on your web page (Power button turning on but system is not booting) I disconnected charger, removed main battery, removed coin battery, pushed power button more than 30 seconds, reinstalled new coin battery, main battery and connected charger). The Power button lights up, the HDD LED lights up for a second. then goes away, the charging LED comes up - first blinking and then continuously - the HDD has a quiet noise as it is spinning and if I leave the laptop on then a bit later the main cooling fan turns on and blows warm air. The screen is dark all the time, doesn't display anything.

Any more idea what can be wrong? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi @zoltangrozli,

Can you get in the BIOS menus with a display showing on startup?

Press F2 (maybe a few times) soon after it starts.

If you can't then leave the laptop on and then shine a flashlight at an angle close to the laptop screen and check if you can see any images at all on the screen.

They will be very faint, so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them if they are there at all.

1) Can you please let us know the pattern of the blinking

2) Did you try to reconnect the Display cable?

Hi @mightyteja,

1) I left the charger plugged in, and since the battery got charged there is no blinking pattern. When I unplug the charger, take out the battery, drain the remained energy by keep pushing the Power button and then put the battery back and plug the charger again, the Battery charge light comes up one time for a second (as I see in white light) and then turns off.

2) How can I reconnect the Display cable? I downloaded the owner manual but it doesn't say about the display cable. In chapter 2 I see Removing the Display assembly (page 34) and Removing the Display panel (page 37) but these are maybe all too much for my purpose. Can you point out the step in the manual that I need to do for disconnect/reconnect the display cable?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi @jayeff,

Unfortunately the screen is totally black, Not even the faintest image can be seen. Flashlight doesn't help either.
